What are the hours of your After School Program at a Club?

The hours are typically 2:30 pm to 7:00 pm hours may vary slightly location to location, always check with your Club to confirm days and hours of operation. Each Club follows their designated school district to accommodate schools regular school hours, early release days, holiday, and school breaks.

What ages of kids go to Boys & Girls Clubs?

BGCAZ accepts school age children who are at least 5 years old and attending kindergarten. Members can be a maximum age of 18 and attending high school.

I have young children. How is Boys & Girls Clubs different from typical childcare places?

Boys & Girls Clubs historically have a core set of beliefs that help distinguish us from other youth-serving organizations. These statements reflect the values and essential features of a Boys & Girls Clubs.

Boys & girls Clubs provide kids and teens:

  • Safe, positive and inclusive environments in which to learn and grow
  • Opportunities to develop positive, meaningful, and healthy connections with peers and youth development professionals
  • High-quality programs and activities that build upon young people’s strengths, allow them to explore new experiences, and help them develop skills for good decision-making
  • Experiences that foster hope, a sense of belonging, and a purpose
  • Opportunities for youth to lead, share ideas, and be heard and recognized 
When school is out, how do kids get to a Boys & Girls Club?

Members arrive to the Boys & Girls Club in a variety of ways. Your child’s school may provide bussing to the Club, parents may drop members off, members may walk, and in some cases the Boys & Girls Club may provide transportation to the Club from school. Each Club varies and it is best to check with your Club.

Do you offer meals and snacks?

Yes, most locations provide both a snack and dinner. Each location varies and it is best to check with your Club about what meals are provided.

Questions about Programming and Activities

Do you offer different programming and activities for each age group?

Boys & Girls Clubs offer age-appropriate programs and activities in 5 core program areas:

  • Leadership and Service
  • Education
  • The Arts
  • Health and Wellness
  • Sports and Recreation

Members are often grouped in similar age groups and rotate to various program spaces throughout the day.

What are the activities at a Club? What would a typical day look like?

Members take part in a variety of age appropriate activities throughout the day. In addition to programming in the areas of education, arts, recreation and sports, heath & wellness and leadership members receive time member receive a snack or meal. Often members spend 45 minutes to an hour in multiple program areas. Ask your Club to share the current programs facilitated at the Branch!

How are kids supervised at a Club?

Safety is our 1st priority. BGCAZ is committed to maintaining a healthy, safe and positive environment by providing supervision to all youth and teens. All Club activities are under continuous supervision by BGCAZ employees and volunteers. BGCAZ employees and volunteers actively move in program spaces and engage with members. How are your sports programs different from what is offered at schools?

BGCAZ’s recreational sports programs offer structured, safe and positive opportunities for skill development, character-building, and a life-long appreciation for healthy living.

All members are encouraged to take part in BGCAZ sports programs and there are no try-outs. Club sport programs focus on learning rather than competition.

Parents appreciate sports at Clubs because the practice and game schedules are not as demanding as most youth sports.  Parents can say "yes" to our sports program because it's doable. Kids enjoy trying different sports with their friends. 

 

Do you help kids with their homework?

BGCAZ Clubs offer Power Hour, which is a time for youth and teens to work on homework. Youth Development Professionals facilitate homework help and educational programs that complement and reinforce what youth learn during the school day.

Questions about Registration, Cost

How much does it cost? Can we cancel any time?

BGCAZ’s annual membership year goes from August 1-July 31st, regardless of the date on which a member begins. All members are charged an annual membership fee of $30, regardless of the date on which the member begins. In addition to membership, members under the age of 13 will be charged program fees to attend the Club.

All fees and payments are due at the time of enrollment and must be paid prior to a child’s attendance at the Club. Parents can select the months that their child attends as long as payment is made prior.

Can I come and tour a Boys & Girls Club? Can I meet the Club leaders and see the activities they offer in their After School Program?

We would love to meet you! Do not hesitate to call your local Club and schedule a tour. However, for your convenience, all BGCAZ Clubs have an online virtual tour.

What does Day 1 look like for my child? Will there be someone there to greet her? Show her around?

When a youth or teen arrive for the first day the Youth Development Specialist will make sure your child is introduced to the Club and members in their age group. Daily programming encourages time for youth to build community and get to know one another. 

Our Club leaders know that a new place with new people can kids uneasy, so we go out of our way to make all children feel comfortable!

What happens after I register?

Once you begin the registration process and complete Step 1, a team member from the Branch will reach out to you. At this time you will receive further information about the Branch and upcoming Member Orientations. Once you have verified your information with the Branch team member you will be able to complete the registration process and make your payment.

Fantastic! Go to our registration page and select which Club is closest to you. Everything after that is your typical online form. We can't wait to meet you and your family!
