Economic Impact

Economic Impact
Welcome! We are excited to share with you ASU's "Economic Impact Report" for Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley. The information below is a glimpse of the impact we have on our members, their families, and our communities. Be sure to read the full report in a convenient flipbook at the bottom of this page.
1. BGCAZ Impact on Members
Every day, a child walks into a Club and discovers something new—confidence, support, a mentor who believes in them, or a skill that will shape their future. The impact of BGCAZ begins with one young person and grows into stronger families, stronger learners, and stronger communities. That’s the power behind the numbers.
Academic Success
Education is the foundation of opportunity and the key to economic mobility. Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley is helping young people succeed in school and beyond. Across Arizona, our Clubs close achievement gaps in underserved communities through daily homework assistance, mentorship, and enrichment that prepare members for bright, sustainable futures.
Our participants received a total of 338,168 hours of academic enrichment across 30+ clubs. As part of our Youth of the Year program, teens were awarded $166,000 in academic awards and scholarships.
Estimated high school graduation rate for BGCAZ members.
6.4% higher than the AZ district average.
The high school graduation rate is an important indicator of school performance used by both federal and state governments, alongside student test scores. Students who drop out of high school typically earn much less money during their lifetimes, compared to their peers.
Workforce Readiness
AZYouthforce (AZYF) is BGCAZ’s flagship workforce development program connecting teens to paid internships with leading employers. Participants complete a 30-hour Workforce Academy covering customer service, financial literacy, and career readiness before beginning real-world placements.
Each teen is matched with a Case Manager who provides coaching and one-year post-internship support to help them transition to college, training, or full-time work.
In our membership year July 2024–June 2025, 241 interns worked with 16 employer partners—earning a total of $984k in wages. Interns received 18,420 total hours of mentorship and training, and 100% of them completed financial literacy education.
Health & Well-Being
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley’s members engage in daily physical activity, make healthy nutrition choices, and refrain from participating in risky behavior. In addition, our programs engage members in social-emotional learning activities to gain skills in relationship building, self-awareness and self-management, and positive behavior and social decision-making.
- 91% of Parents agree or strongly agree that the provision of meals is important to their family.
- 78% of Members get 60+ minutes of daily activity.
2. Impact for BGCAZ Families
BGCAZ's programming for kids and teens creates opportunities for families that ripple far beyond one family.
The average household income for our members is $37,368, and nearly 50% of them are single-parent households—underscoring the need for affordable care that allows caregivers to work consistent hours and sustain financial independence.
When parents have high-quality, affordable and reliable out-of-school-time care, they can stay employed, pursue career growth, and strengthen Arizona’s workforce. This stability multiplies across communities—creating reliable employees, stronger neighborhoods, and reduced strain on public systems.
3. BGCAZ’s Benefits to the Greater Community
Since the merger of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley in 2020, the organization has continued to grow in reach and impact. It has also grown its workforce, and its internship opportunities with local and national partners. Thousands of volunteers also serve in a variety of capacities to support our programs and operations.
BGCAZ employs a diverse workforce of more than 150 full time staff members across our 30 Clubs. During the summer months, we employ 450+ staff members to serve thousands of summer campers. Consistently ranked as one of the largest nonprofits in the Valley, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley strives to be a best place to work for those at the beginning of their careers, and those wishing to grow a career in the sector.
Businesses and nonprofits across the Valley significantly benefit from BGCAZ’s spending on goods, services, and capital construction. Local municipalities see a steady infusion of economic activities as a result of the Clubs’ investments in capital improvements, purchasing and maintenance.
For every $1 invested, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley generates $14.79 in community benefit, returning nearly $400 million in annual social and economic value across education, health, workforce, and public safety sectors.
