Mesa Arts Academy
No better place to learn
Mesa Arts Academy offers a rigorous K - 8 academic program that emphasizes the arts and technology. We have discovered that by integrating the arts and technology into our academic program we create a more hands-on learning environment that better fits the learning styles of our diverse population of students. To accomplish this, we employ only Arizona certified teachers in areas and seek out partnerships with volunteer agencies, schools of higher learning and community businesses. A variety of artists from the community work with our students creating a positive climate that celebrates the gifts of each student. Recently, the Arizona Charter School Association rated Mesa Arts Academy as one of the top three schools in Arizona for increasing student achievement and the Arizona Department of Education honored us with the 2011 Math Excellence Award.
Dear Mesa Arts Academy Families,
Welcome Back! I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer. I also hope you are relaxed, recharged, and ready to start a new school year. I am so delighted that you are part of our amazing learning community. I welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education, and I look forward to working with you and your children. All signs point to another incredible and productive school year. Our skilled and devoted staff is already planning and preparing for your child(ren). Our enthusiastic office team is registering new families, ordering needed materials, and updating student files. Our much-appreciated parent group “MAAPO” is gearing up to welcome families, provide volunteer opportunities, and offer other exciting events and programs. We are indeed a joyous and caring community with the common goals of nurturing responsible, caring students and promoting high-level learning.
Each year brings positive change. This includes a few additions to our staff. We are delighted to welcome a counselor, a behavior interventionist, new aides, and a new janitor. Thanks to Vari, we received a furniture donation of state of the art student desks for each classroom, including new teacher desks and new office furniture.
As many of you know, Governor Ducey signed a budget with provisions that will impact schools throughout the state. One such provision prohibits counties, cities, towns, schools, and school districts from requiring students or staff to wear face coverings during school hours and on school property, regardless of age. This went into effect on July 1, 2021. Masks are no longer required and are optional. However, we remain committed to following public health guidance and encourage students and staff who have not been fully vaccinated to wear masks. We will also fully support the decision of students and staff who continue to wear a mask, whether vaccinated, or not. As an ongoing safety measure, we will continue to visually monitor members and staff with COVID-like symptoms and request they not attend school for their safety and to protect others. While we will no longer require the temperature checks, all other cleaning and sanitation protocols will continue. Students and staff will still be required to use hand sanitizer and wash hands frequently. Please refer to our Health policy on our website. Read full
Leer completa

Our classrooms are enriched with numerous volunteers from partnerships with Mesa Community College, ASU, and the Volunteer Center. Federal grants provide an aide in every classroom to assist the teacher and students. Mesa Arts Academy offers after-school care onsite, as well as the National Free and Reduced breakfast and lunch program to those who qualify.
Our school day is extended by an hour to allow us to both have a rigorous academic program and still have time to devote to our arts programs. Our art classes vary by grade level, with younger children taking a variety of art classes, including Drama, Musical Theatre, Dance and Visual Arts. Older children select from elective classes, including Beginning and Advanced Art, Guitar, Dance, Photography, Yearbook, Drama, Service Learning, Multimedia, and Musical Theatre. Parents are required to be active participants in this process with a daily requirement to check and sign “home-school binders.”
Parents are encouraged to take an active role in all aspects of the school program, including hours of volunteer time at school.
STUDENT APPLICATIONS
Enrollment Request:
Students are accepted into the Academy on a first-come first-served basis, with siblings of enrolled students, children of staff and continuing students given priority. A sibling is defined as a brother or sister, or minor residing in the same household. The entire registration packet must be completed and submitted to the school before a student can be accepted for enrollment. If there is no space available for new students at particular grade levels, those children will be placed on a waiting list and their families will be notified as soon as an opening is available.
